Sports carnivals

Swimming carnival

This event is held annually in Term 4. All children from Years 3 – 6 participate. Children in Year 2 who turn 8 in the calendar year and can competently swim 50 metres, are also eligible to participate.

Cross country

Held during Term 1, the children undergo training in the weeks leading up to the event by gradually building on the distance they run. All children from Year 2 to Year 6 are expected to participate in this event.

School athletics carnival

Held in Term 2, all the children from Kindergarten to Year 6 participate in the athletics carnival. The children may nominate to participate in longer distance races or field events such as long jump, discus, shot-put, etc.

In each of these areas children have the opportunity to compete against other schools at the zone carnival.

Intensive swimming program

The intensive swimming program is a compulsory component of the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education syllabus for students in Kindergarten to Year 6.

Children are taught skills in the area of aquatics, dealing with water familiarisation, water confidence, water safety, floating and movement skills, basic swimming strokes, water safety, stroke development, and diving.

The program takes place in Term 3 at Homebush Aquatic Centre.

Gymnastics / Dance programs

A Gymnastics program is held in Term 1 of each year.  A Dance program is held in Term 4 of each year.

Children enjoy learning these skills in a nurturing environment.

Athletics skills

Athletics skills are taught in Term 2 in preparation for the athletics carnival. Year 10 students from our neighbouring high school, St Patrick’s College, teach the children these skills under the supervision of teachers from both schools.
